Deskripsi
Suica and Pasmo, are the most popular prepaid e-money cards used to ride trains and buses and shop at convenient stores, vending machines, and more. You will see various types of e-money cards in Japan depending on where you go, but they are mostly interchangeable and country-wide.
As long as you have a Suica, you will be able to visit anywhere you want to go. Using a Suica is slightly cheaper than buying a paper ticket, and it saves you a lot of time not having to worry about how and where to get tickets.
Please choose the options depending on how much money you would like to have preloaded on your Suica card when you get it. Once you have confirmed the card purchase, please consult with us when you are arriving in Japan.
For reference, here are some standard fare prices between popular areas:
Shibuya – Shinjuku = 154 JPY
Shibuya – Tokyo = 195 JPY
Tokyo – Harajuku = 140 JPY
Within Tokyo, it costs about 150-200 JPY (one-way). If you are traveling the whole day, you might use approximately 1000 JPY per day. Even if you purchased more than you might use for public transportations, you can always use your deposit for other purchases (such as foods and drinks)!
JR East Japan charges a 500 JPY deposit for every Suica card purchased which is included in the price of each option. You are eligible of a refund of the deposit if you return the card to any JR station before leaving Japan.
About refunds:
Suica cards issued by JR East Japan can be returned only at JR East stations.
When the card is returned, the deposit of 500 JPY is returned along with any remaining amount.
There is a charge of 220 JPY to return a Suica card, which is deducted from the total. For refunds, a fee of 220 JPY is subtracted from the total (a result of less than zero is considered zero), and then the initial 500 JPY deposit is added.
Refund examples:
With a balance of 1,000 JPY, the fee of 220 JPY is subtracted for 780 JPY, and then the deposit of 500 JPY is added for a refund of 1,280 JPY.
When the balance is 100 JPY, subtracting the fee leaves less than zero, so the amount is considered zero, and then the deposit of 500 JPY is added for a total refund of 500 JPY.
When the balance is zero, subtracting the fee leaves less than zero, so the amount is considered zero, and then the deposit of 500 JPY is added for a total refund of 500 JPY.
